The Student's Playlist

One of my piano teaching goals for this year is to help students solidify their repertoire by re-mastering previous performance or favorite pieces.  Here is the plan:
1.  Add a My Playlist binder divider.
2.  Add a My Playlist assignment sheet block
3.  Have students choose which former piece they want to remaster and work on it on their own and for practice points.
4.  At each lesson I will ask if they are ready to add a piece to their playlist.  They have the option of:
  • asking for help on their piece then continuing to work on it another week, or
  • continuing working on it another week with no help needed, or
  • playing it for me when they are confident they have remastered it.
5.  Once they have played it well for me, I'll write the name of the piece on the My Playlist binder sheet, we will move the music to the My Playlist section, and they get a prize.
6.  Finally, to keep their pieces at remastered level I will add a Warm-Up assignment sheet block.  Each day they practice they will begin with a "warm-up" by playing a song from their Playlist one time, choosing a different piece each day.  At the beginning they will obviously only have one warm-up piece.
Note:  While some students have pieces memorized, it will be a better long-term remaster if they can follow along on their music as well.
How parents can help:  Please help locate the cardstock  copies of former recital pieces and put those in the student's binder.
